Andrew Cohen got enlightened shortly after meeing his Master, H.W.L.Poonja (Papaji) in Lucknow in 1986. His passionate exposition of Papaji's little-known advaitic minimalism kindled widespread interest. But numbers dwindled following a personal and ideological split with Papaji and Andrew's insistence upon formal community membership.

According to Andrew's community no-one has fully awoken around Andrew. Maybe so. However, it may be the case that the community's tight hierarchial structure and chain of command may not recognise an awakened student.

Andrew Cohen is founder of What Is Enlightenment? magazine. His recent book Living Enlightenment develops his ideas about "Evolutionary Enlightenment".
